JOB DESCRIPTION:
Perform fitting, welding, and fabrication duties in a shop setting to support a ship repair company.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· In addition to fitting and welding, must be able to operate shop equipment such as band saws, brakes, shears, etc. Responsibilities include fitting and tacking of bulkheads, railings, foundations, deck plating, and other structural members.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings required.
· Ability to lay out work from written and verbal instructions.
· Must have a minimum 5+ years fabrication experience - ship repair-related work preferred.
· Must be able to use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
· Must have basic structural fitting tools.
· Must understand layout of a ship with compartment identification knowledge
· Must know about NAVSEA Standard Items.
· Other duties assigned to meet business needs.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Previous training or certification or a minimum of 5+ years related training and on-the-job experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Prior ship repair/shipbuilding/shipyard/shop experience required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical data, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of employees.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Ability to functions independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.
· Ability to follow the appropriate safety precautions.
· Comfortable communication with all levels of management and employees.
