Marine Trowel Mechanic
International Flooring & Protective Coatings, Inc. (IFPC) is seeking experienced Marine Trowel Mechanics to join our Marine Division. The successful candidate will perform installation and repair of specialty flooring, trowel-applied systems, non-skid deck coatings, and protective coating systems aboard Navy vessels and in shipyard environments.
Responsibilities
- Install and repair trowel-applied flooring, epoxy, urethane, cementitious, mortar, and non-skid systems.
- Prepare steel, concrete, and other surfaces through grinding, chipping, scarifying, cleaning, and other approved methods.
- Measure and properly mix multi-component materials according to manufacturer and project specifications.
- Apply materials using trowels, power trowels, screeds, floats, rollers, squeegees, and other tools.
- Maintain proper thickness, texture, slope, profile, and finish of flooring systems.
- Perform patching, repairs, resurfacing, and corrective work.
- Set forms, screeds, and guides to establish proper elevations and finished surfaces.
- Inspect completed work for quality and compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all IFPC, shipyard, Navy, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Complete required JSAs and other daily project documentation.
- Work safely in confined spaces, tanks, compartments, decks, and other marine environments.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and other trades.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Trowel Mechanic, Flooring Mechanic, Concrete Finisher, Marine Flooring Installer, or similar position preferred.
- Experience with epoxy, urethane, cementitious flooring, mortar, or non-skid systems preferred.
- Marine or shipyard experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and follow product data sheets, drawings, specifications, and instructions.
- Ability to properly mix and apply specialty flooring and coating materials.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
- Must be able to meet applicable shipyard access and background requirements.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and varying shifts as project schedules require.
- Reliable transportation to assigned work locations is required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and areas with limited access.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and elevated platforms.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, dusty, noisy, and industrial environments.
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when required.
